August 5th, 2007 - Trains, Feet, Automobiles, Buses...

10:00 pm – sitting in bed

We got up early and traveled today. Long day. Traveling takes so long. Observe:

Renato’s House, drove the car to EuropCar (rental place), walking -> Bus Stop, Bus -> Inside Sienna, Walking -> Main Bus Stop, Direct Bus (that isn’t so direct and makes lots of stops) -> Florence, Walking from bus station to train station, train from Florence to La Spezia, Train from La Spezia to Riomaggiore, Walking through tunnel to room rental, walking 150 steps and several back allies to room. I now understand much better why traveling on public transportation is not an efficient endeavor. You are always waiting on the next bus or train or trying to figure out where the heck you are. It took us 12 hours from start to finish; a journey that would have taken 4 in the car.

Traveling days are hard. Since I get motion sickness, I cant really do much on the train or bus. So I end up just staring out the window. Its mindless, but draining. I don't know why.

Well that’s really it. We traveled today. Oh yah, we did stop in Santa Croche (a church from the movie ‘A Room with a View’). Bwige was happy to get to see it. It was a pretty church, but when compared to the other beautiful places we’ve been, it was nothing spectacular (don't tell Bwige I said that). When we were about to leave, we heard a lady singing ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’ (Oh my Beloved Father). It’s the main song from the movie and so it made Bwige very happy. Haha, I even got the lady to take a picture with Bwige.

Well, that’s it. Time for bed. Tomorrow is a day to relax since today was all travel. I look forward to sleeping in.
