Why I Will Never Again Buy A GM

I was a Chevy guy. I loved GM's. I own a Saturn Vue and a Chevy Cavalier.

And these are the last GM vehicles that I will ever own. Why? Because the company is now owned by the government. By its very core definition, this defeats and goes against capitalism. Private businesses are not supposed to be owned by the government. Its not their job!! Their job is to keep me safe... not to own companies. That's called SOCIALISM.

I am very sad. I am heartbroken that the American public isn't crying for someone's head on a stick for this. But it's where we are.

So where does that leave me? I want to buy American and support our economy, but what other US car companies are owned by the government? I don't know. And the other problem is that foreign cars are made better. In Consumer Reports... no American car is top ranked. So buy a worse car and support America? Or get a better car and have my cash go to Japan? (and don't give me the argument that they are 'assembled' in the US because in the end the profit still goes to Japan, not the US)

yar....

God's Plagues

I just found a great chapter in Isaiah. (19)

So God comes to judge the Egyptians. He does all this stuff, making them turn on each other, and bringing their plans to nothing and making the wisdom of their wise men foolishness.

God all brings all this destruction and judgment down upon them and we would typically think that that is a bad thing. But its not!! The whole point of the chapter becomes clear in verses 21-22:

21 So the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the LORD. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the LORD and keep them. 22 The LORD will strike Egypt with a plague; he will strike them and heal them. They will turn to the LORD, and he will respond to their pleas and heal them.

God has done all the things in verses 1-18 so that he is able to call them to himself and save them! He strikes them with a plague WITH THE PURPOSE OF healing them and calling them to himself.
This seems wrong, but it's not. He is opening their eyes to the useless idols that can not save them by destroying those idols with the purpose of him showing himself to them so that they can understand HIS greatness and HIS glory. Then they will turn from their useless idols and turn to the true God who will save them. It’s like throwing away a kid's crib so that he can sleep in a big-boy bed. Yes, he may think that you are cruel because he liked the crib. But you know that the old things must pass away before the new better things can come.
Shouldn’t we WANT this to happen to us? Shouldn’t we desire that God blast away the useless trash in our life so that we can focus more on him? Shouldn’t we beg him to scrape away the rotting moldy flesh and material toys we cherish so that we can be more like Christ and more like God? YES!! Phil 2 says that we hold all things to be rubbish compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ!!
Yes, this is backwards from what the world thinks, but its God says is right. And in the end, are we seeking after worldly things or after Christ? Are we looking for the praise of men or of God Almighty?

So its been just about forever since I posted anything. I guess I should update you guys on the goings on of my life. Most of you know all these things. But if you don’t, you want more details, just let me know!

So… this summer will be the summer of change. In 6 months, almost nothing in our lives will look like it does now.

I am graduating
I graduate in 33 days. Yep, I am finishing up seminary. I have more senioritis every day! I am itching to be outa here! I have very much enjoyed my time learning, but its time to GO!!

I am getting a job.
Yep, youth minister. Somewhere. I don’t know where. Wherever God calls us. That could be Austin, that could be Tim Buck Too. My choice would be San Antonio/Austin, but God doesn’t always follow that.

I am having a daughter

Yep, we are having little Lucy. And yes, I am excited. But more terrified than excited. For some reason, Shrek 3rd keeps popping up in mind… She is due July 25.

We are moving
Yep. We have to be out of campus housing by June 31st. So… if I don’t have a job in place by June 31st go to go, then we don’t have a place to live when its time to have the baby. So that could be interesting. Quite interesting.

Bwige is quitting her job
She will be staying home with our precious one.

We are moving churches
Obviously.

Oddly enough, we are not freaking out about all of this. We should be losing it, but I am quite calm. God has always done such a wonderful job taking care of us. Why would he just dump us now? He loves us. He rejoices over us. He has, and will, take fabulous care of me and my loved ones.

So that’s it!

If you want invites to baby showers/ graduation / graduation parties, send me a note and I’ll keep you updated.

Our Adventures in Gingerland

So Bwige and I made a gingerbread house tonight!! It was not only great fun, it was an even bigger disaster!

They say that its easy. Dont believe them. It's a lie. Building a ginger bread house is hard... you need lots of very specialized tools - which they didn't include!!

This is a picture of the box shows that it SHOULD look like.

This is what ours actually looked like.

Umm...

Yah....

Do you see a difference?!?! Compare their roof with our roof.

The front of their house - and ours.

Their trees - and ours.

I'm so sorry Philip. Please forgive our architectural blasphemy.

Hopefully... very very hopefully, it's the thought that counts.
